Technical SEO Audit: Where to Start

A technical audit is easy to turn into a two-hundred-item warning list where no one can figure out where to start. In reality, most sites see results from just a few basic checks.

Indexation First

Before optimising content, make sure the search engine can actually see the pages you want: check robots.txt, sitemap.xml, and indexation status in Search Console.

Duplicates and Cannibalisation

Several pages competing for the same query weaken each other. This is one of the most common hidden reasons traffic doesn't grow despite regular content production.

If you publish content every week and traffic is flat — check for cannibalisation before increasing publishing volume.

Speed and Core Web Vitals

A slow site loses both users and algorithmic advantage. The biggest impact usually comes from optimising images and removing render-blocking scripts.

An audit should end not with a list of problems but with an action plan sorted by impact on results. That's the difference between a useful audit and a report that ends up in a drawer.
